DRAWING - MANIFESTO

Exhibition of the "ArchiGraphicArts 5" International Contest
Within the framework of ARCH Moscow 2018 and the 6th Moscow Biennale of Architecture
16-20 May, CHA, 2nd floor, Hall 15
Organizers: Archplatforma.ru (Group of sites 360.ru)
On May 16-20, an exhibition of the International contest "ArchiGraphic Arts5" will take place in the space of the ARCH Moscow  2018 and the 6th Moscow Biennale of Architecture under the support of the Moscow Chief Architect Sergey Kuznetsov.
The exposition will present 30 works of architects and artists from among the finalists of the Fifth International Competition of Architectural Drawing organized by the 360.ru Group of Webs with the assistance of the Sergei Tchoban Foundation - the Museum of Architectural Drawing, the Chief Architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov, the Union of Architects of Russia, the Union of Moscow Architects and LAUFEN. The subject of the review during the first "Five-Year Plan" remained a constant - manual graphics on non-digital media: images of existing architecture, fantasies, drawings to projects. A special nomination for Moscow, curated by Sergey Kuznetsov, this time invited participants to express their "Sense of the City".
For the exhibition were selected drawings from all four contest categories, highly appreciated by the International Jury headed by architect Sergei Tchoban. However, the range of choice of judges based on the examination of online materials turned out to be quite broad, and we find out in Final about 100 works  in all nominations (478 applications from 15 countries were accepted for the competition) . In this chamber exposition first of all graphic statements illustrating professional searches, researches, dreams and "ideas-fixes", reflections on problems and forms of architecture, "quintessence" of author's style and methodology were included. Originally, the exhibition was planned to be called "Drawing -Manifesto."
However, along with the conceptual graphics - and, what is characteristic, surpassing it in quantity - the Competition invariably receives architectural landscapes and "portraits" of buildings that are not burdened with any super-tasks, except purely artistic ones. Expressive examples of such "contemplative" drawing, included in the exposition, not less than graphics, carrying a professional semantic load, give rise to reflect on the binary nature of Architecture, its existence at the intersection of exact sciences and art. Manual drawing in the variety of its techniques and approaches  appears to be the most sensitive media that captures and transmits this duality. The key question for our exhibition project was, finally: what prevails in the creative perception of real structures and visualizations of structures, still living in mind - ration or emotion?
Each piece of art presented here gives its, as a rule, an ambiguous answer, which we propose to see, comprehend and feel. In the exhibition space, you can vote for the best work - its author will receive a special prize from the organizers. Open voting for the "Audience Choice Award" is valid until May 31 and on the site of the contest http://competitions.archplatforma.ru/.
The names of winners and prize-winners will be known at the Award Ceremony, which will be held on June 8.
